13 Sep Leading nursery cite tpm childcare apprenticeships as best tool for supporting staff progression
tpm ticks all the right boxes as childcare apprenticeships partner for high-quality children’s day nursery Daisy Chain.
Daisy Chain Nursery is a childcare provider based in Walton and Bebington. Since they first opened in Walton over a decade ago they have gone from strength to strength. They are proud to now be employing 34 members of staff across their sites. Furthermore, most of these started as apprentices and have grown with the company.
Area Manager Joanne Bower explains the importance of apprentices at Daisy Chain:
‘Our nurseries have extremely high standards. We prefer to take on apprentices because we can ensure that they understand and uphold these standards straight away. We find that employees coming in from other childcare providers don’t necessarily have the same standards and visions as us. On the other hand, apprentices tend to be on board from the start.’
Childcare apprenticeships can lead to management positions
Daisy Chain currently employs five childcare apprentices at various stages of their journey. They endeavour, where possible, to employ all apprentices when they have completed their course. Many former childcare apprentices have gone on to become managers including their area manager Joanne. This progression of staff is important to them and future management potential is identified quickly. Daisy Chain believes that the calibre of apprentices is incredibly high. In particular, the recent cohort from tpm is one of the best they have employed. tpm apprentice Hannah has just finished her qualification and is already earmarked as potential management material. Other ‘stand out apprentices’ include Bethany and Paige, who will be completing their course soon and have been exceptional employees.
Why tpm for childcare apprenticeships?
Daisy Chain has used other childcare apprenticeships training providers in the past but they prefer to use tpm now.
‘We really value that our nursery assistants go to college and understand the theory behind their job tasks with us. tpm have been incredible – it feels like they’re part of the team. Some providers avoid accountability but tpm care about our staff and services just as much as we do. Their standard of teaching is so high and it matches our high standards. Specifically, they know our approach and they are on the same wavelength as us.’
Flexible and supportive
tpm works closely with employers to ensure that all stakeholders’ needs are met. This means that they offer a flexible and supportive approach. Joanne continues:
‘tpm knows which practical skills we are developing with our apprentices. Consequently, they line up their teaching to reinforce that. This means the apprentices can understand why we do things in a certain way. tpm are fantastic in the way that they support us when we need it. During busy times they are flexible and will swap teaching days to help us. They have worked with us for many years and they understand the demands of our business. We love this personal approach and we have got to know the team well. This familiarity and consistency mean that the working relationship is very strong. We’d like to thank tpm for the work with our apprentices over the years.’
