Rainbow House: Employer of the Month

Our tpm Employer of the Month for March 2022 is Rainbow House in Walton. The award goes to their manager Lesley Kidd for providing outstanding support to tpm apprentices employed at the nursery. Lesley was herself a tpm apprentice and started training with us in 2009. Within three years, she had completed both her level 2 and level 3 childcare apprenticeships. As a result, she went on to work for ten years in the same nursery where she started her apprenticeship journey. Lesley says:

tpm gave me the experience and knowledge to perform well in my practice. Consequently, I was promoted to room leader and then to nursery training manager”.

Progression to higher education

Lesley didn’t stop there! She went on to complete an EYFS Foundation Degree and a BA Hons in Childcare Leadership & Management in 2016. Lesley is a shining example of how apprenticeships can lead to an incredibly successful career in the early years sector. We are very proud to have supported Lesley in her career, but it is her own hard work, commitment and ambition that has led to her success.

Because apprenticeships worked for Lesley, she is now a firm ambassador for the programme. In particular, she knows how important it is for employers to provide support to their apprentices in order for them to progress and succeed. Rainbow House has an ongoing partnership with tpm to recruit and train apprentices. Lesley says:

“At the moment, we have three learners with tpm and two qualified level 3 members of staff who qualified with tpm in the past three years. They are all fantastic members of the team.

tpm is always a pleasure to work with, from the enquiry process to assessor visits. All the team are so friendly and motivational, which is why the students progress so well. I recommend tpm to anybody wishing to begin an apprenticeship and any managers wanting to find a training provider for potential students.

“I am fortunate to be still involved with tpm thirteen years on and hope to continue working alongside them for many years.”

Rainbow House nomination

Lesley and Rainbow House were nominated for the tpm Employer of the Month award for March by Laura-Jones Clarke, Apprenticeship trainer at tpm.

“I nominated Lesley for the incredible support she provides tpm learners. She has recently helped one of our learners overcome challenges, providing her with consistent advice and guidance to help her continue with her Early Years Practitioner Standard. Lesley has adapted practices for the learner and showed genuine empathy for her situation. She is a role model for all apprentice employers.”

When visiting Rainbow House as a trainer, I feel welcome. Lesley is fully involved with the review process, giving her advice and guidance for the learners’ journey. In addition, she supports off the job training by providing new ideas for the learners to complete. Lesley always stops what she is doing to make time for the review process and is constructive when doing this.”
